Art making and talking with a qualified art psychotherapist to support you to improve and make sense of your life.

Art/ psychotherapy with Dr Susan Mackay
What happens in an art therapy session?
The room will have a range of art materials. There will be paper, card, scissors, magazines, paint, crayons, pastels, glue, string. There might be a canvas, clay and modrock. But first, you and Susan will check in. See what is around for you. Sometimes the session might be only talking. Sometimes, after checking in you will move to the art table and start playing/ expressing with the materials. Sometimes a prompt helps. After the art making, there will be time together to reflect on what was made.

How does it help?
Art psychotherapy draws on many theories and the implicit therapeutic qualities of art making to allow shifts in perspective.
Through material interaction or conversation patterns of behaviour and survival adaptations learned unconsciously in the past can be illuminated and allowed to shift. Along with this, Susan is trauma informed, neurodiverse aware and somatic based and can provide an informal 'toolkit' to support practically. These methods can support your body, brain, physiology, and emotions to process and recalibrate.
